Pune's geographic luck is unmatched β within 150km you can reach some of Maharashtra's most dramatic landscapes. Here are five routes worth every kilometre.
1. Lonavala & Khandala (65km)
The most popular escape from Pune. Take the old Mumbai-Pune highway for a scenic, winding experience. Visit Tiger's Leap viewpoint, Bhushi Dam, and the Rajmachi Fort trail. Best in monsoon when every waterfall comes alive.
2. Mahabaleshwar (120km)
India's strawberry country. The ride up to the plateau is a bikers' delight with misty ghats and sweeping valley views. Factor in 2.5β3 hours each way and stop at Panchgani for lunch.
3. Bhimashankar (100km)
One of the 12 Jyotirlingas and a pristine forest reserve. The roads are challenging but rewarding. Go early β the temple gets crowded by midday.
4. Kolad (130km)
The white-water rafting capital of Maharashtra. Combine a coastal-style ride with an afternoon on the Kundalika River. A great itinerary for a summer weekend.
5. Mulshi & Tamhini Ghats (60km)
Underrated and spectacular, especially post-monsoon. The Tamhini Ghat road is one of India's most picturesque mountain passes. Short enough for a half-day ride, special enough to remember for years.
All these destinations are easily accessible on bikes available on Rhydho's Pune listings. Book in advance for weekends!
